What love IS
Love is divine. The divinity spoken of is not reserved for the love of a god or a child, but for all expressions. Understand that once love is recognized, there are an infinite number of ways for it to be felt and shared. There are connections that are spiritual, some that are mental, those that are emotional and others that are physical. All are love.
We have put labels on love; defined love as “good” or “bad”, real or otherwise. In truth, love exists in all moments. It is the recognition of that love in each facet of life that propels us towards unity.
Labels are separators, and as long as they exist, oneness does not. All is love. That wild sexual encounter, quiet walk in the park, gentle hug, inspired dance, passionate conversation, angry outburst and helping hand are each physical manifestations of love; each very different, yes, but with the same “value”.
Love cannot be quantified, I do not love one of my children more that the other. I love each of my children. I do not love one of my siblings more than the other. I love my siblings. It is the same with each of my friends, all of my bosses, and every one of you. I love you all the same.
Love is like air. It surrounds us. We breathe it in and out and expect it to always be there. You don’t wake up each day hoping you’ll get enough air. You wake up and breathe it in. It sustains you.
Love surrounds you. It is equally available. It does not increase its power if you are rich or beautiful or lucky or of a certain race or religion or age. Love is an equally potent force for all of us. Whether it manifests as hundreds of friends or just one, it is the same.
How much you are loved is not indicated by numbers of any sort. You are loved. Like the air, there is no place you can look and not see love.
The trick is to recognize it. It’s like that saying, “If you want to hide something, put it in plain site.” Love is right in front of you, every moment of each day.
This does not mean you will enjoy each moment, vision or person equally. You do not have to open your arms and hug them all. You will laugh with some of us, yell at some of us, dance with some of us, disagree with some of us and make love with some of us. You will feel closer to some than others. These are specifics of relationships, not degrees of love.
Love is truth. It is you. It is me. It is us. You have come here now to actualize the love that you have always been. You are here to realize your very essence.
There is no better time than now to love. I have a lifetime of stories I have shared and re-lived up until now, that don’t serve the love that I am. They serve only to separate. I have believed that in order to understand me, you had to hear all of my sadness. Like a badge, I wore them and spoke of each mistreatment dramatically and effectively. What they had in common was someone to blame that was not me. I am putting my badges away and you know, I feel a whole lot better.
Unencumbered, I am free to love without condition. I am ok, not in spite of my past or because of what’s happened, but just because. There is no room in my life now for blame. The past is not real, it cannot be touched. What I can touch is this cat by my side, this pen in my hand and the snow outside my window. What I have is right now. I watch my beautiful son eat his leftover birthday cake for breakfast (a questionable family tradition), and hear his adorable brother laughing and count my many blessings. This is the world I have created and it is perfect. It’s a bit messy, sometimes it sort of stinks, but always it is life; my expression of the love that I am and that’s ok. Actually, it’s magnificent.
Today let’s let go of our propensity to label people and to judge levels and kinds of love or life. Let’s give up judgment altogether.
Our moment to love is here and no one is better equipped to love yourself than you. There’s no room for judgment in one such as you. You are a being of light and source runs through every part of you. There is nothing left to do but love. It is what you are.
